A green and welcoming entrance plaza, a second main entrance, and a flexible hall layout. In the summer of 2026, EXPO Greater Amsterdam is undergoing several major upgrades. The venue will be further developed to enhance the visitor experience and provide even better support for event organisers.

Quality, comfort and appearance

This summer’s renovation will create more flexibility in programming and allows organisers to scale up more easily, without needing to take on an entire hall. In addition, the entrance area will become greener and more inviting.

The first upgrades to the venue will be completed in early September 2026.
The entrance plaza will be delivered in phases and completed in early November 2026, including landscaping and greenery.
The flexible partition walls will be available from the end of December 2026.

General manager Koen Iking: “Anyone looking at EXPO Greater Amsterdam sees a large greenhouse with a green, accessible character. The expansive glass façades bring nature indoors. Step outside and you are surrounded by 21,000 square metres of peace and space – right near Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport. It is precisely this open character that makes our venue unique, and it forms the foundation of our renovation.”

Built for the Floriade and transformed into a thriving event venue, this repurposed greenhouse offers 24,000 m² of indoor space and over 21,000 m² of outdoor possibilities. EXPO Greater Amsterdam is a unique event venue near Amsterdam and Schiphol. Here, you enjoy vast green surroundings combined with the convenience of 4,400 hotel rooms within a 10-minute drive.

The venue offers five large (interconnected) spaces ranging from 1,200 to 24,000 sqm, including a plug-and-play conference centre for up to 450 guests. Planning to host a larger event? EXPO Greater Amsterdam can accommodate up to 15,000 visitors.

What does the renovation involve?

The renovation consists of a series of upgrades designed to enhance the visitor experience and create new opportunities for organisers.

Outdoor area:

The entrance plaza will receive a completely new layout and will be transformed into an open, green and welcoming plaza with more planting and seating areas. Most of the fences will also be removed to create a stronger connection with the surroundings.
The route from the car park to the entrances will be redesigned into a green walking route.
LED screens will be installed above the entrances, along with digital wayfinding signage along the route.

Installation of a thermal curtain in Hall 3
Addition of an extra toilet block in Hall 3

What does the renovation timeline look like?

The first upgrades – including the additional entrance, extra toilet facilities and LED lighting – will be completed in early September 2026. The flexible partition walls (twin rolls) will be available from the end of December 2026.

The entrance plaza will be delivered in phases. The base will be in place by early September 2026, with planting and landscaping following in line with the growing season. Full completion is expected in early November 2026. Recreatieschap Spaarnwoude will then begin redevelopment of the adjacent area, which will continue over the coming years.

When is the opening?

There is no official opening planned. EXPO Greater Amsterdam will remain open throughout the works. All scheduled trade fairs, conferences and (business) events will go ahead as planned.

What will local residents notice?

Local residents will experience little to no disruption from the renovation. The venue remains open and scheduled events will continue as planned.
