EXPO Greater Amsterdam is the perfect base for a fun day out. EXPO Greater Amsterdam is located close to several motorways.

Hoofddorp is the vibrant heart of Haarlemmermeer, where shopping goes hand in hand with work, nightlife, culture and a pleasant residential environment. The shopping district offers a beautiful mix of nation-wide chain stores and local specialty shops.

Hoofddorp is also home to the Historical Museum Haarlemmermeer, which showcases objects related to the reclamation of Haarlemmermeer. The Historical Museum is housed in part of an old farm, Mentzhoeve, which was built in 1860 and resembles a Limburg farm, since all the buildings were erected around a central courtyard. Mentzhoeve is the only such farm in the area. The surrounding buildings are home to the Claus Partyhouse.

Line of defence

The Geniedijk defence line, which is part of the Stelling van Amsterdam, also runs across Hoofddonk. The Stelling van Amsterdam was a defence line located 10 to 15 km around the centre of Amsterdam built between 1880 and 1920. It stretches 135 km and has 42 forts, and has been declared UNESCO World Heritage. Fort Hoofddorp is located on this defence line.

European heritage

De Cruquius (1849) was one of the three steam pumping stations used to pump Haarlemmermeer dry between 1849 and 1852. It was never modernised and remained operational until 1933. In 1934, it became home to a museum which illustrates the Netherlands’ battle against water throughout the centuries. De Cruquius was included in the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

Haarlem has a cosy historical city centre, with lots of shops, restaurants, famous museums and the beach nearby. In a nutshell, it’s a city that has it all. Enjoy strolling across beautiful hidden courtyards, admire masterpieces by Frans Hals and the organ at the St Bavo Church, which was once played by Mozart, or rent a boat to explore Haarlem from the canals.  Visit Haarlem and get ready to be amazed by its tourist attractions, rich history and exuberant atmosphere.

Haarlem is also home to many museums, including the Frans Hals Museum and the Teylers Museum, as well as cinemas and theatres.

Zandvoort en Bloemendaal

If you like the sea, the Zandvoort beach and the clubs in Bloemendaal are also just a stone’s throw away.
